Little Green Ghouls, Buddy!

My brother used to start a lot of his sentences with "when I grow up and I'm a butterfly". This was my favorite thing for a long time.

I’m not sure what my favorite thing is right now.
I’ll let you know.

"The Hangover" and the Age of the Jokeless Comedy

I am a huge Apatow fan but this is a great article nonetheless.

dangurewitch:

“The films of Phillips and Apatow arrived as an antidote to tired, mechanistically joke-driven comedies, like the reference-packed “Scary Movie” clones. But their movies wound up acting as a kind of comedic nerve gas, wiping out joke-comedies en masse.”

A conversation I’ve had a lot, now in convenient article form. I have nothing against the Apatow/Phillips sensibility, but I do wish that other forms of comedies were allowed to exist right now. These things go in waves, and I think I’m ready for the next wave.

  6. welcometothisblogbitch said: To be fair, Apatow/Phillips are less to blame than Friedberg/Seltzer. They’re the nerve gas. They’ve created a hostile, unsafe environment for gag-based comedy, in which any audience member out of high school dismisses parody films sight unseen.
